University officials say he will work with alumni, community organizations and friends of the school to develop strategies and efforts to help students succeed. Akron President Luis Proenza says in a statement that Tressel will bring his energy, leadership, passion and compassion to the university.

Tressel was forced to resign last May amid a scandal at Ohio State. He met with Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay about the teamÕs head coaching position but didnÕt get the job.
